Tán is a new restaurant concept from Chefs and Owners Richard Sandoval and Jonatán Gomez Luna Torres. Sandoval is know as the founder of Richard Sandoval Hospitality and has helped developed over 50 Latin-inspired restaurants across North and Central America, Europe, and the Middle East. Sandoval has earned numerous awards throughout his career, including Mexico’s coveted “National Toque d’Oro”, Bon Appetit’s “Restaurant of the Year”, and was listed as one of The Inc Magazine’s 10 most inspiring business leaders. A globetrotting restaurateur with a passion for flavor, Sandoval is often credited for introducing Latin cuisine to the UAE, Qatar, and Serbia.

Chef Torres meanwhile is an internationally renowned chef who is known as one of the most talented chefs of the New Mexican Chefs Generation. A graduate of the Centro Culinario Ambrosia, Chef Torres trained at some the finest restaurants in the country, including restaurants with two and three Michelin Stars. His most famous concept, Le Chique, was born in 2008, and earned massive critical acclaim for his avant-garde cuisine, daring and fun, all while paying proper homage to the traditions of Mexican Cuisine. Operating what is considered to be one of Mexico’s finest restaurants, Bleu & Blanc magazine listed Chef Torres as one of the country’s best five emerging chefs.

Now, the two iconic chefs will be teaming up to develop a brand new restaurant concept at 209 East 49th Street. While details are still scarce at the moment, the restaurant, known as tán, will be replacing Pampano Taqueria, and will feature a menu that focuses on Latin cuisine. Also operated by Chef Sandoval, Pampano sadly closed during the pandemic and the space has remained vacant since.

Thankfully, Chef Sandoval will be reviving the space with the help of Chef Torres to create a dynamic new restaurant space that will celebrate the diverse flavors of Latin cuisine. The location is relatively spacious and will feature 27 tables indoors with an additional 14 tables on the outdoor terrace. Once they have acquired their liquor license, the new restaurant is expected to operate from 12:00 PM – 2:00 AM every day, seven days a week.
