This new venture is a solo project by acclaimed Chef Ivan Garcia, known for his partnerships in popular eateries such as Mesa Coyoacan, Zona Rosa, and Guadalupe Inn.

Details about Dear Rufino Taqueria remain limited as its opening date rapidly approaches. However, what is clear is the profound influence of Chef Garcia’s childhood experiences in Mexico City on his culinary journey. Growing up, Garcia spent countless hours standing on a chair in his family’s kitchen, absorbing the art of traditional Mexican cooking from his mother and grandmother.

Chef Garcia’s passion for classical Mexican cuisine, with its rich traditional ingredients and processes, only grew over time. After earning his degree in Culinary Arts from Iberoamerican University in Puebla, Garcia moved to New York City in 2001. His talent for authentic Mexican cuisine was swiftly recognized in the city, leading to significant roles in several renowned establishments, including Barrio Chino and Mercadito. Notably, he was instrumental in crafting the original menu for Barrio Chino.

Garcia’s culinary journey led him to open his first restaurant, Mesa Coyoacan, in 2009, followed by Zona Rosa in 2012. His remarkable story and the depth of his culinary heritage were celebrated in the award-winning film “I Carry You With Me,” released in 2021.
