One of the West Village’s favorite Italian spots is currently getting ready for their first-ever expansion.
Osteria Carlina is one of the West Village’s newest and most popular Italian restaurants. Founded in 2021, Osteria Carlina was established by Christina Andres-Cerutti and her husband Moreno Cerutti, with their partners Carlo Rolle and Davide Poggi Ferrari. All natives of the Piemonte region of Italy, the founders established a new Italian spot at 455 Hudson Street in order to highlight the specialty cuisine of Northern Italy. At launch, Osteria Carlina quickly earned an excellent reputation for the quality of its food and service, and was given a rave review by NY Eater. In addition to Osteria Carlina, Moreno Cerutti also owns San Carlo with other partners, and that restaurant has been in operation since 2015.
Now, after only a year of operation in the West Village, the team behind Osteria Carlina is getting ready for their first-ever expansion. The new location is expected to open up at 11 Varick Street, on the corner of North Moore Street. Osteria Carlina will be replacing Girello, a popular pizza restaurant that has been in operation since 2011. Sadly, the owners of Girello have not yet announced any plans for the future after the closure of their restaurant.
The location is about standard for the neighborhood and offers a total of square footage of 1100 in the dining room, enough to seat about 40 guests. The space also offers an additional 2470 square feet of space in the basement for storage and prep, as well as an L-shaped bar. The team is currently in the process of acquiring a full restaurant liquor license for the space, and are proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM Monday through Saturday, and 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM on Sunday.
According to Christina, she had her husband have recently acquired the keys for the space and are now busy preparing it for their grand opening. As it stands at the moment, they are hoping to have the new Osteria Carlina operational by late Summer/early Fall, though that target is always subject to change.
