The team behind Upside Pizza joined forces with industry veteran Rosario Viggiano to open up their flagship pizza parlor at 345 Adams Street in downtown Brooklyn in 2019. Later, the team opened a second outpost at 388 7th Avenue in Park Slope, which is home to iconic pizzerias like Luigi’s and Giuseppina’s. Now, the team is seeking the 1,278-square-foot space on 173 Broadway in the Financial District to house their third location, which will be their first Manhattan outpost.

“We hope to continue earning our place among the great names in New York’s ongoing pizza Renaissance,” the team says on their website. “As we like to say, long live the classic slice.”

The concept is billed as a “no frills” pizza parlor that is “heavy on nostalgia and low on BS.” The team uses century-old techniques to naturally leaven their pies with a sourdough starter and house-milled flour to create their limited pie selection.

Their “simple but precise” menu includes less than a dozen pies, which can be purchased by the slice, ranging from their classic cheese, pepperoni and margherita pies to their signature vodka pie, as well as their one vegan offering. It also boasts beverages including but not limited to Mexican Coke and Mexican Fanta.

The team, which includes Noam Grossman and Eli and Oren Halali, also got tips from Anthony Falco, an international pizza czar, in the early development of the concept.

The Upside Pizza team also recently launched a nostalgic ‘90s-themed cocktail bar called Ask for Janice in Greenpoint this fall with the team behind Eavesdrop.

In addition, I had a wonderful time with that. In spite of the fact that both the narration and the images are of a very high level, you realise that you are anxiously expecting what will happen next. Regardless of whether you choose to defend this stroll or not, it will be essentially the same every time.
