Përshëndetje, New York! In case you needed a little bit of brushing up on your Albanian, that’s Albanian for “Hello!”, or more literally “Good health to you!” As always, we hope you’re in good enough health to enjoy all the wonderful new restaurants and bars opening up in your neighborhood.
Speaking of restaurants and bars, there’s some new buzz going on about the former Warren 77 bar on77 Warren Street. Backed by NY Ranger Sean Avery, Warren 77 was a popular New York sports bar known for celebrating the long sporting heritage of the city. Featuring a cozy interior lined with old sports memorabilia, Warren 77 was a beloved tribute to some of New York’s greatest athletes, like Yogi Berra and John McEnroe. Warren 77 was known as a neighborhood spot that welcomed the “best of the sports world, booze, and bites,” but sadly closed last year in response to the global pandemic.
While the space remained vacant for some time, it appears that a new entrepreneur is planning on reviving the space with a brand new vision. A new hospitality company, Tribeca FB Project LLC, has just submitted an application for a liquor license 77 Warren Street. The project is owned by Birken Fejzullai, an Albanian nightlife entrepreneur known for managing several popular venues in Tirana, Albania’s capital. With so much expertise in bar management, Birken was even made Tirana’s Night Mayor. Responsible for boosting the image of the city as an attractive tourist destination, Birken helped transform Tirana into one of the region’s premiere nightlife destination.
The new bar, which has still yet to be named, will offer 1,650 square feet of space and will be able to seat about 66 guests at one time. Located on the ground floor of a five-story mixed use building, the new project is not expected to be a sports bar like Warren 77. While the initial proposed hours for operation were 12PM until 2AM, concerns from the licensing committee about Warren 77’s operation prompted Birken to change the operating hours to 12PM – 12AM Monday through Thursday, 12PM – 1 AM Fridays and Saturdays, and 12PM – 10PM on Sunday. As this is Birken’s first New York City bar, residents are very excited to see what he comes up with
