Truly, there is no better time to enjoy New York than Spring. Warm enough to enjoy a walk without a jacket, but cool enough to avoid the odor of melting garbage, words cannot express how badly this author is looking forward to the season. If you’re looking to plan a trip to Manhattan this Spring, then you’re definitely going to want to check out The Shack at Tartinery.

The Tartinery was founded by Parisian native Nicolas Dutko in 2010. Endeavoring to bring the best French traditions to New York, Nicolas decided to dedicate his restaurant to one of France’s most iconic dishes: the tartine. Essentially an open-faced sandwich with toasted French bread, the tartine is the perfect food for busy New Yorkers on the go. Previously covered in an earlier What Now New York article, Tartinery recently just opened a new location on West 3rd Street.

Last year, Tartinery took their brand to the next level when it launched The Shack at the Brookfield Place Waterfront Plaza at 250 Vessey Street. Featuring an assortment of juice, snacks, and of course Tartines, the shack has since closed for the winter while the owners prepare to enhance it for the planned Spring 2022 reopening.

Currently in the process of acquiring a new liquor license for the outdoor space, The Tartinery Shack will be returning this year with a slew of new games and drink options. Featuring outdoor classics like ping pong, bocce ball, and an assortment of different board games, the Tartinery Shack will transform from a humble Tartinery dispensary to one of the neighborhood’s coolest outdoor hangout spots, offering French wines, beers, and Tartines to the many guests who come to enjoy the waterfront. While there were originally plans to invite DJs to play concerts for patrons, the licensing found that prospect in conflict with the interest of the neighborhood, and the owners agreed to limit their application to recorded background music.
