Good news, New York vegans and animal lovers! Another exciting plant-based restaurant is planting its roots in SoHo and spreading to the rest of the country.
Planta is a full-service vegan restaurant from entrepreneur Steven Salm and Executive Chef David Lee. Celebrating the power of plants through delicious dishes, Planta works with ethical suppliers in order to source high-quality plant-based ingredients that take animal proteins and products off the menu. Wholly committed to a 100% plant-based future, Planta now operates seven restaurants across four concepts in Toronto, Miami, and NYC. Now, the Planta team is gearing up to add one more New York concept to their portfolio.
Planta Cocina is the latest concept from Steven and the Planta team. Highlighting the diverse flavors of Mexican cuisine, Planta Cocina is envisioned as a fully plant-based Mexican restaurant. Offering vegan takes on traditional classics like tacos, burritos, and ensaladas, the restaurant will also serve traditional tequila and mezcal alongside their plant-based creations. In addition to a robust selection of beer and wine, Planta Cocina will be offering signature cocktails and even a seasonal kombucha for fellow lovers of the fermented tea.
Moving into 202 Prince Street, Plants Cocina will be replacing JN Natural Fruit Corp, a fruit stand that operated between 2019 and November 2021. Occupying 2,500 square feet of space, the location is spacious and has plenty of room to bring Steven’s vision to life. The location also has an ample amount of outdoor space, and is capable of seating up to 35 guests outdoors in addition to the 54 guests that can be comfortably sat indoors. If you’re too hungry to wait though, you should consider checking out some of Planta’s other concepts – particularly Planta Queen in Nomad, which offers a vegan take on sushi, dumplings, wok, and noodles.
