Owner of Vegan Thai Spot Opening Japanese Spinoff this Fall

Chelsea’s Glur gained a loyal following for its vegan-friendly offerings of traditional Thai comfort food. Its owner is opening a sister Japanese concept in the same neighborhood.

The owner of Chelsea’s vegan-friendly Thai restaurant, Glur, is opening a sister Japanese concept in the same neighborhood this fall, owner Issaraporn Weerakongsuwan confirms.

The Thai-native opened the doors of Glur back in November 2019. It gained a loyal following for its vegan-friendly offerings of traditional Thai comfort food. Upon popular request, Weerakongsuwan decided to open a Japanese spinoff that will offer ramen, curry dishes, maki rolls and yakitori skewers. It will focus on providing plant-based vegan fare but meat options will also be available. It is also seeking a full liquor license. 

“I decided to open it based on customer requests for more plant-based comfort food, and I know Japanese is very popular,” he tells What Now New York

However he hopes to open another Thai restaurant in the future, too. 

The restaurant expects to offer 16 tables with 54 seats, as well as two bars with six to eight seats. It is slated to open from 11 a.m. to midnight daily.
