The family-owned Oxford Cafe has been a Midtown staple for decades. Operating for over 35 years in New York, watching the iconic café close its doors for the first time last year was a shocking blow to locals who had come to know the café so well. Thankfully, the closure turned out be temporary, and the Oxford Café will be returning to midtown by the end of this year, albeit a little further uptown.
The new Oxford Café, which previously occupied the space at 109 East 59th Street, is slated to move up one block to 119 East 60th Street. The space was previously the home of Gourmet Park, a popular midtown deli that also offered catering services. Boasting 2,000 square feet of space, the new acquisition is a major boon for the café, putting it only two blocks away from Central Park.
Owned and operated by Evan Xenopoulos, the Oxford Café has been managed by the Xenopoulos family since the beginning. Serving up made-to-order American diner classics like wraps, burgers, soups, salads, and of course breakfast, Oxford Café was a regular lunch spot for many midtown locals and tourists alike.
The Oxford Café currently has three other locations across Manhattan, though they all operate under the name The Mill. Only the original Oxford Café can retain that title, and it’s the original café that will be reopening on 60th street.
Evan and his team are currently hard at work ensuring that the new location matches the sterling reputation that Oxford Café had acquired over the decades.
