A brand-new taco restaurant is on its way to becoming New York’s hottest new concept.
Gotham Tacos is the latest concept to be announced for Turnstyle Underground Market. Located underneath the bustling Columbus Circle subway station, Turnstyle Underground Market is a first-of-its-kind retail redevelopment that has transformed the dark, underwhelming passageway into a vibrant underground marketplace with over 35 retailers and micro-restaurateurs. Featuring over 30,000 square feet of space and 300 linear feet of window shopping, Turnstyle Underground Market has quickly established itself as the coolest and hippest experience that can be found within New York City’s subway system.
Now, founder David Chiong is getting ready to debut a brand-new taco restaurant for the new underground market. Operating under the name Gotham Tacos, David will soon be taking over his own space in Turnstyle that is expected to seat about 18 guests inside at one time, while also offering to-go and delivery options for the busy commuters that are sure to pass by.
Prior to moving into Turnstyle, David had been operating another taco restaurant called Cascabel Tacos. Cascabel operated from July 2019 – November 2022 at 857 Ninth Avenue and offered a wide variety of Tacos, starters, plates, and desserts. Naturally, the tacos were the star of the show, and popular options included their pescado tacos, pollo chipotle, lengua (braised veal tongue), and their vegetal taco with oyster mushrooms and fingerling potatoes.
Chiong is now getting ready to apply for a full liquor license for Gotham Tacos. He is currently proposing operating hours of 10:00 AM – 10:00 PM every day, seven days a week. While the website is not active at the time of writing, once David launches Gotham Tacos you will be able to find more information at www.gothamtacos.com.
