Duck Club is a brand new performance venue concept from founder Tom Moore. Moore is a veteran hospitality worker who presently serves as the Director of Production at Baby’s All Right and The Dance, where he hosted numerous high-profile guests and performers such as Bruce Springsteen, Charli XCX, Kendall Jenner, and many more. Beyond his work with Baby’s All Right, he is also known as the founder of DPI Music, a New York-based record label that explores audience engagement through hands-on release campaigns. Founded in 2016, DPI currently represents popular pop and experimental artists like Grace Ives, May Rio, and Amiture.

Now, Tom is preparing to take his production expertise and launch a brand-new performance venue of his own design. Dubbed Duck Club, his new concept is currently expected to open at 5 Chatham Square, between Mott Street and Doyers. The location currently functions as a medical imaging lab, but back in its heyday, the block was home to the Chatham Theatre, an old-school movie palace known for exhibiting Chinese language films from the 40s to the 70s before it was eventually demolished.

Tom took the time to speak with What Now New York to share his vision for the club and express his intention to open up a new kind of performance venue that will host the kind of events he can’t find elsewhere in the city. While the project is still a long way away from completion and could still change significantly as development continues, Tom’s core vision is to host regular live performances (like music, theatre, and comedy) in a fun and relaxing setting that brings the community closer together.

According to a sample menu provided by Tom, Duck Club will offer an elevated cocktail menu alongside a light beer and wine selection. While Duck Club will serve light bites like chocolate cake and a “country club snack bowl”, the menu also includes a list of recommended local restaurants for club guests in need of a full meal.

For his next step, Tom is now getting ready to meet with the community board to propose his concept and acquire the necessary liquor license. As part of his preparation, Tom has gone to great lengths to properly soundproof the space and has also provided a plethora of letters of approval from neighbors and local restaurant operators. When speaking to What Now, Tom mentioned that he lives less than 500 feet away from the venue and is personally motivated to reduce all noise pollution for his own well-being. While Duck Club’s official website hasn’t launched yet, you can check it out here once the website finally goes live.
