New York’s Lower East Side has seen a slew of recent developments over the past decade. Now, a new hotel that promises to become the jewel of the neighborhood is getting closer to opening up to the public.
Moxy Hotels is a boutique hotel company from Marriott. Fusing together youth, elegance, and style, Moxy is a playful and inviting hotel that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Known for its vibrant neon pink accents, spacious rooms, communal bars, and playful outdoor spaces, Moxy is all about making sure their guests have the best time possible during their stay.
Today, there over a hundred Moxy Hotels worldwide, with 25 in the US and the majority in Europe. The chain currently boasts 4 locations in New York alone, at Times Square, Chelsea, the East Village, and the Financial District. Now, plans are once again moving forwards to open Moxy’s fifth NYC location, dubbed Moxy Lower East Side.
Currently being constructed at 145 Bowery, Moxy Lower East Side has been in development since it was announced in 2019. While the pandemic slowed down construction, the space has since topped out and is now in the process of developing its interior. The project is being developed by David Lichtenstein’s Lightstone Group. The 18-story hotel yields 127,000 square feet of space and should offer guests 303 rooms at about 200 square feet a piece. When the project is finished, the hotel will be about 193-feet tall.
The Lightstone Group has also partnered with Tao Group Hospitality to operate the hotel’s food and beverage program. Tao Group is known for its iconic TAO Nightclubs and Asian Bistro, and is also responsible for the internationally renowned Hakkasan restaurants, among numerous other popular restaurants. TAO group will be developing an exclusive restaurant, lobby bar, cocktail bar, and lounge all for Moxy guests and friends.
While the project was initially slated for a Spring 2022 launch when it was first announced, it appears that there may be some delays in meeting those initial goals. The hotel is currently in the process of acquiring a liquor license for its restaurant and bar concepts, and will have a clearer outline for opening once the license is acquired.
