Kura Sushi USA is an innovative and tech-interactive Japanese restaurant concept that was established in 2008 as a subsidiary of Kura Sushi Inc, which itself began in 1977 in Japan. As one of the first pioneers of the “revolving sushi” concept, Kura has spent decades innovating on their core concept and developing new technology to enhance their unique dining experience. Their philosophy of “Muten,” or “nothing added”, is an ongoing promise that all of their food is prepared using fresh, high quality ingredients.

Today, Kura Sushi is one of the largest companies of its like and currently operates over 500 locations across Japan, Taiwan, and the US. Over forty of those locations belong to the US, and soon New York will be graced with the city’s first Kura outpost. Kura USA has just secured a 3,000 square foot store space at Tangram, Flushing’s newest mixed-use retail space and food hall. Located at 133-33 39th Avenue in Queens, Tangram officially launched two months ago in December after over seven years of development, fusing traditional Hong Kong styled open air markets with a neon-lit cyberpunk aesthetic. Rooted in the past and with a finger on the pulse of the future, Tangram “combines the spontaneity of a vibrant neighborhood, the convenience of shopping and entertainment just steps away, and the ease of smart, creative design.”

Now, Tangram guests will have an exciting new concept to look forward to as the neighborhood continues to make a name for itself as one of New York’s most influential dining destinations. At Kura Sushi, guests are invited to to place their orders on touchpads and then grab their plates as they pass by on a rotating conveyor belt and can order an incredibly wide variety of dishes, including nigiri, rolls, hand rolls, gunkan, udon, ramen, and plenty of desserts.

According to the New York business journal, Kura hopes to have their new space operational by this Summer. Most recently, Kura opened up their latest expansion in Edison, New Jersey and are planning to develop quite a few new locations across the country over the next year. Their website currently lists thirteen locations as “Coming Soon”, including an outpost in Carle Place, Long Island.
