One of Rome’s most popular food halls is finally getting ready to launch its first-ever US expansion.
Nerolab Italian Food Zone is an Italian bistro and food hall that has been operating successfully for years out of Rome. The concept originated out of a simple mission to make guests feel good while allowing them to have a break and enjoy Italian culinary excellence. Nerolab brings together the best of Italian dining, coffee, pastries, wine, pasta, pizza, and so much more, and brings them all together in one central location. During the day it functions as a cafeteria-style artisanal pastry shop, while in the evenings it transforms into a traditional Italian bistro that offers an extensive wine bar as well as American cocktails.
For the past three years, locals have been eagerly awaiting Nerolab’s first expansion in the US at 40 Wall Street, but the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic put those plans on indefinite hold. Now though, the renovations are almost complete and the team is finally ready to begin moving forward with the opening. The location at 40 Wall Street once housed Dean & Deluca many moons ago, but the space has remained vacant for nearly eleven years at this point.
What Now New York spoke with Managing Director Paolo Lanternari, who revealed that the team is currently hoping to launch sometime around May. According to Paolo, once Nerolab launches they will be open from breakfast through lunch and dinner, and will also feature regular happy hours. The team has been developing the concept for over three years, so everyone is extremely eager to finally introduce their concept to New York and America at large. They chose 40 Wall Street for their first location because of their admiration for the Financial District’s incredible energy, which they feel perfectly complements their vision for Nerolab.
According to Paolo, Nerolab will also be opening up two sister bars in the near future. One bar will operate in the former bank vault at 40 Wall Street and will be reserved for employees in the building, while another will open in the Trump building at 725 Fifth Avenue, which will be open to tourists and workers alike.
Nerolab endeavors to mix the heart of grandma’s old recipes with a modern proposal in a cozy and relaxing design, and once it finally opens to the public it’s sure to become one of the neighborhood’s must-visit spots.
