Honest began in 1966 as a small family-run food cart in Ahmedabad. Founded by Vijay Gupta and his father, the humble food cart soon began to expand thanks to its zesty and delicious food. Soon, Honest would even expand into Thailand, fusing together two distinct culinary traditions in a fantastic new combination.

Today, the chain now operates numerous locations across India and Thailand and can be found at various malls, train stations, and independent stores. Now, Honest is finally gearing up to open its first store in the US, moving into a brand new Manhattan location.

Honest’s first US outpost will be opening up at 176 Bleecker Street. Described as an “intimate community-oriented Indian restaurant,” Honest is expected to offer a delightful menu of Indian and Indo Chinese delicacies. With 2,680 square feet of space between the first floor and basement, the new location is also expected to have a small patio out front. All together, the space is expected to have enough eats for 44 guests to dine inside at one time, though Honest is also expected to do a substantial amount of business through delivery and take-out.

Open daily from 12AM – 10PM daily, the Honest team is currently proposing a 3AM closure on Friday and Saturday, though those hours could change at their upcoming liquor license hearing. Applying for a beer and wine license, the new restaurant will serve the same beloved dishes that it has been serving in India for over 30 years. For truly authentic and honest Indian cuisine, look no further than Honest NYC.
