Grand Canyon Restaurant Plans First-Ever Manhattan Expansion

After operating five different restaurants across Brooklyn, Victor is finally bringing his concept to Manhattan.

Grand Canyon Restaurant is part of a larger family of restaurants established by founder Victor Carreto. Born in Mexico, Victor made his way to New York at the age of 20, about 37 years ago, and immediately set to work to make a living in his new city. Starting as a dishwasher, Victor soon earned a promotion and started working behind the counter at a local restaurant where he spent his early years learning the ropes of hospitality. As he continued to work, he refined his English skills by working as a waiter and dreamt of one day opening a restaurant of his own design.

Today, Victor has achieved much more than his original dream and now operates five unique restaurants across Brooklyn, including Grand Canyon Restaurant, Grand Canyon Bistro, and Grand Canyon Diner. Known by many as one of the best burger joints in the neighborhood, Grand Canyon restaurant has been operating since 1983 and offers a variety of food selections with an emphasis on authentic Mexican cuisine. Victor operates his portfolio of restaurants with the help of his wife Andrea, and together the two have four children – three in college and one in high school. While Victor has based his operation in Brooklyn for the past thirty years, the time has finally come for the veteran restaurateur to venture across the East River and open up Grand Canyon’s first-ever Manhattan expansion.

Grand Canyon’s latest expansion, dubbed Grand Canyon Restaurant City, is currently expected to open up at 514 Third Avenue. The space was formerly home to Bareburger, which has since closed down its Third Avenue operation. Victor spoke with What Now New York and shared that the space is expected to seat about 50 guests inside, noting his intention to add an additional 10 seats on the sidewalk. According to Victor, the new restaurant will operate like a diner and will offer a wide variety of American, Italian, Mexican, and Greek dishes cooked with care by his experienced staff.

Grand Canyon Restaurant City will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day, and Victor is also hoping to add a full bar to the concept. While he does not know exactly when the new restaurant will open up, readers are encouraged to visit Grand Canyon Restaurant in Brooklyn and try the menu out for themselves.
