Zucker’s Bagels and Smoked Fish is well known as one of New York’s quintessential neighborhood bagel shops. Founded in Tribeca in 2006, founders Matt Pomerantz and Dan Pace endeavored to open a store that made bagels the old-fashioned way, hand-rolled and kettle-boiled using only unbromated and unbleached flours (and a touch of malt syrup). A native New Yorker, Pomerantz’s parents operated a well-known ladies’ clothing business on Rivington Street, and Matt spent his formative years wandering the Lower East Side and patronizing the neighborhood’s iconic appetizing stores.

Since launching in 2006, Zucker’s has been slowly expanding across the city and can now be found in eight unique locations across the city. Most recently they launched a new outpost by Bryant Park, and now some big changes are on their way for Zucker’s original store. For over 15 years, Zucker’s has been operating successfully out of their very first location at 146 Chambers Street. Now though, the company has grown well beyond its humble origins, and the original store has become far too cramped to meet the needs of customers.

According to recent signage established outside the shop, Zucker’s is planning on moving across the street to a new location at 143 Chambers Street. Current estimates put the move this Summer, and once the transition is complete, the original store on 146 Chambers Street will shut down for good. The new location is much bigger than the original and will offer more customer seating while streamlining the store’s delivery capability.

In a statement given to Tribeca Citizen, Pomerantz also revealed his intention to add more items to the menu once the new location launches. He told the outlet, “Our build-out of the space is going really well – we love the classic Tribeca cast-iron loft building with exposed brick and loft ceilings.” For more information, you can follow Zucker’s Bagels on Instagram for updates on all of the team’s latest endeavors.
