One of New York’s most exclusive clubs is about to get that much better.
Casa Cipriani is a new private members club from the prestigious luxury hotel company Cipriani S.A. Based out of Italy, the company began when founder Giuseppe Cipriani founded the iconic Harry’s Bar in Venice with his partner Harry Pickering. Nearly 90 years old today, the bar became a popular haunt for American celebrities abroad like Ernest Hemingway and Humphrey Bogart, and is alleged to be the original home of the Bellini cocktail as well as the food dish Carpaccio.
Today, the Cipriani name is synonymous with luxury, and today operates some of New York’s (and the world’s) most exclusive hotel concepts. Most recently, the company just launched Casa Cipriani at 10 South Street in the former Battery Maritime Building. Located in the beautiful ferry terminal designed by the legendary Walker and Morris architectural firm, Cipriani tapped renowned architect Thierry Despont to convert the structure into a club and modernize the amenities. The project was initiated when Cipriani acquired the lease in 2017, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic the project was delayed until it was finally finished last December.
Now, the Cipriani team is renovating the space once again to add exciting new amenities. Firstly, the club will be adding its 6th floor rooftop to its license premise, which will enable club members to order drinks directly from the planned rooftop bar. To accommodate this, Cipriani Club will be renovating its fifth floor and reducing its overall tables and seats, and will be moving its standing bar from the “Living Room” to the “Promenade”.
During the initial application for the license alteration, Cipriani Club originally requested an extension of its closing hours from 2:00 AM – 4:00 AM, but further discussion with the board encouraged them to maintain the 2:00 AM closure for now and to return in sixth months with another proposal. If you want to check the space out for yourself, you’re going to need to either book a reservation or become a member of the club.
