It is not easy to say goodbye to a beloved bar, but in a city where things move as quickly as New York, the tragic goodbyes are often quickly followed by exciting new hellos.
Soon, you’ll be able to say hello to a brand new bar that’s set to open in Tribeca later this year. Winston’s is a new bar concept from owner Sage Laforte. It is not known at the moment what other businesses Laforte has operated in the past, but her new bar, Winston’s, will be opening up at 111 Reade Street, between Church Street and West Broadway, only a few steps away from Bogardus Plaza and the Chambers Street subway station.
Laforte is currently in the process of applying for a full liquor license for the space, and is expected to operate the business as a tavern. There are no indications at this moment that Winston’s will be serving food, and Laforte is not applying for a restaurant license at this time. The space does not even feature a kitchen, so they will be limited to light snacks and pizza should the team decide to offer food. Winston’s will also not be featuring any live music or DJs, but it will feature recorded music for the background.
Moving into the space at 11 Reade Street, Winston’s will be replacing Ward III, another popular bar that previously occupied the space. Ward III operated for 11 years on Reade street before finally closing in 2020, and the space has remained vacant ever since. The location offers about 1,600 square feet of space and should be able to accommodate about 48 people at one time, between the tables and long stand-up bar.
For the time being, Sage is proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 10:00 PM Sunday through Thursday, and 11:00 AM – 1:00 AM Friday and Saturday.
