Time Out Market New York has been one of the most successful restaurant experiments ever launched in Brooklyn. Created in 2019 as an extension of their 2014 project in Lisbon, the market invited 21 of the cities best up-and-coming eateries and assembled them all under one Dumbo roof.

Highlighting the best food, drinks, and culture that New York has to offer, the market follows the simple Time Out principal: “If it’s great, it goes in the magazine, if it’s unmissable, it goes in the market.” Now, it appears that one of these “unmissable” eateries will be opening a full brick and mortar restaurant in Lower Manhattan next year.

Chote Miya has been one of the most popular restaurants established in the Time Out Market. Owned by restaurateur Jimmy Rizvi, the Indian eatery owes its beloved image to Chef Satinder Vij. Named after the Hindi term for “a regular approachable guy,” Chote Miya is a tribute to the iconic street-side eateries that define the culinary scene in Bombay. Fusing the casual style of Bombay street vendors with Chef Vij’s expertise and premium ingredients, Chote Miya has become something of a Brooklyn sensation since launching in Dumbo.

For their first independent brick-and-mortar restaurant, Jimmy Rizvi and the team are doing everything they can to make sure the first restaurant is special. Taking over the space previously occupied by Greecologies, Chote Miya’s first restaurant will offer a substantial 2,200 square feet of space for diners with an additional 2,400 square feet of space for storage in the basement. Expected to seat a total of 65 patrons at one time, the new Chote Miya will feature an enclosed backyard for dining in addition to a six-person bar that will serve alcohol for the first time in Chote Miya’s history.

Greecologies was a popular Greek Yogurt restaurant that was known for serving authentic, grass-fed yogurt alongside healthy bowls and plates. At the time of writing, this was the only Greecologies in operation and it remains unclear what the future of the business holds. Thankfully, Chote Miya has already cultivated a sterling reputation among Brooklyn residents, and the restaurant is well suited to thrive in Manhattan at 379 Broome Street.
