The vintage store meets taco and tequila bar concept founded by Joshua Sampson first debuted in Denver before opening additional outposts in Boulder and Nashville. The team submitted an application to acquire the space on 150 W 26th Street in Chelsea for their first location in New York City and did not respond to an immediate request for comment.

It describes itself on its website as “the place to treasure hunt and help the planet through sustainable fashion, all with a cocktail in hand.” It boasts a bounty of vintage record and clothing vendors from across the country dating all the way back to the ’60s up to the Y2K era. Its stores also offer retro games on-site such as pinball, contributing to its bygone era feel with a modern twist.

The team created the concept in hopes of creating a sustainable fashion alternative and combat the climate crisis since fashion is known to be among the highest-polluting industries due to textile waste and environmental degradation. It is also known to use exploitative practices.

Its mission statement reads: “At Garage Sale we offer you a vintage haven not just because it is unique fashion, but because it is sustainable.”

“Our mission is to help educate on the destruction of fast fashion while giving discarded clothing a longer lifespan.”

The New York location’s proposed hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. from Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. It is slated to offer two tables with eight seats, as well as one stand-up bar with 10 seats.

Billed as a taco and tequila bar, its proposed menu items include street tacos from slow cooked birria to pulled slow smoked chicken and mushroom carnitas for $4.25-$4.75, nachos for $10 and sides such as catch queso and chips for $6 and salsa and chips for $5.

“I need something like this in Brooklyn,” one customer testimonial on their website reads. “A vintage store where my bf can sit at a bar, have a drink, and listen to good music? This checks all the boxes.”
