Pi Bakerie is a new New York bakery from owners Regina and Angelos Katopodis and Spyridon Lourantos. Established at 512 Broome Street since 2014, the bakery is known for specializing in Greek delicacies like spanakopita, tiropita, moussaka, and koulouri sandwiches. In classic fashion, every pastry is made with authentic Greek phyllo-dough and baked into a pie shape – hence the name. Prior to opening Pi Bakerie, Regina previously operated the popular Artopolis Bakery in Astoria. Unlike other bakeries in the neighborhood, every item at Pi Bakery is prepared from scratch, importing only authentic ingredients from Greece to prepared in the bakery on-site.

Last month, the Pi Bakerie debuted their first ever expansion in a soft opening at 35 Cedar Street. Now, Lourantos has just filed for an application for a brand new beer, wine, and cider license for the new space. Lourantos has tapped Paul Lamas to operate the Cedar Street space, who is the co-founder of HPH Hospitality Group with partner Peter Poulakakos. Together, Peter and Paul have brought to life some of the neighborhood’s most dynamic concepts, including The Dead Rabbit, Underdog, Le District, Harry’s Italian, Bathtub Gin, and Ulysses. The group formerly operated the Financier café that previously occupied the space, which sadly closed all of its New York locations in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Thankfully, Financier still operates a bistro and bar in Winter Park, Florida, so the brand is still doing well.

The new Pi Bakerie offers 1,800 square feet of space between the ground floor and basement and features a maximum allowed occupancy of 74 people. During the soft opening, the bakery currently operates from 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM. However, once the beer and wine license is acquired and the bar is properly developed, Lourantos is proposing new operating hours of 7:00 AM – 11:00 PM. According to Lourantos, the cafe owes so much of its success to its hardworking and dedicated staff, who have been working tirelessly over the past few years to bring the concept to life and provide guests with truly exceptional customer service. The café is open and ready to serve guests, so you can stop by any time to check out their signature pastries, and you can follow them on Instagram for updates about future endeavors.
