Sushidelic is a new sushi concept from owners Hiro Nishida and Taka Tanaka. Hiro is well known as a seasoned hospitality entrepreneur with a background in international world-class restaurant groups, economics, business, and real estate. He is the co-founder of Jonah’s Kitchen, a Tulum inspired Mexican Cantina, as well as Eight Turn Crepe, a Japanese fast casual creperie that has been steadily expanding across the US. Tana Taka meanwhile is the CEO of AUTEC, the creators of the world’s first sushi robot. That’s right, sushi robot.

AUTEC was established to help culinary business achieve their goals with the aid of never-before-seen technology. The founders of AUTEC envisioned a world where high-quality sushi is globally accessible through technological innovations while maintaining the importance of the tradition in which sushi making is steeped in. Today, AUTEC’s sushi robot line has expanded from Nigiri robots to Maki (for roll types), Omusubi robots (for rice balls), sushi conveyor belts, and sushi rice mixers.

Now, Tanaka and Nishida are teaming up to launch a brand new concept for New York. The concept, Sushidelic, is currently expected to arrive some time next year at 177 Lafayette Street, and is envisioned as a restaurant for “Fast-casual, elevated sushi, emphasizing artfully prepared, fresh delicacies.” The location boasts a total 2,700 square feet of space between the ground floor and basement, and is expected to feature a 360 square foot sidewalk cafe.

The restaurant will feature one massive 27 seat sushi bar on the left-hand side, an a series of tables lining the right wall that will seat an additional 43 guests. Hiro and his team are currently getting ready to meet with the community board to acquire a new beer and wine license for the space, and are proposing operating hours of 11:30 AM – 2:00 AM every day, seven days a week. What Now New York spoke to Hiro, who stated that he was still too early into development to share further details, but will be ready to discuss more later in November. While Sushidelic does not yet have its own online presence, you can follow Hiro on Instagram for updates on all of his projects.
