The restaurant will be located in a 5,009-square-foot space in The Oculus, the shopping mall in the World Trade Center, at the corner of Church Street and Cortland Street. This will be the chain’s fourth location in the city with its flagship in Midtown, which debuted a decade ago, as well as outposts in Elmhurst, Queens and a forthcoming location in City Point, Brooklyn, as previously reported by What Now New York.

“We are excited to open another restaurant in Manhattan after a decade since our debut in Midtown,” said Barry McGowan, Chief Executive Officer of Fogo de Chão, in a statement. “As we expand our East Coast presence, we continue to see the growing demand for the culinary art of churrasco that we uniquely offer at Fogo.”

“Manhattan is a sought-after destination for millions from around the world, and our goal is to provide a distinctive dining experience that complements the city’s diverse culinary landscape.”

Fogo de Chão is an upscale Brazilian steakhouse, offering various meats and seafood, as well as appetizers, sides and desserts.

It was founded by Arri and Jair Coser who grew up on a traditional southern Brazilian farm in the Sierra Gaucha, where they were trained in traditional churrasco grilling techniques. The duo opened their flagship in the countryside of Porto Alegre in 1979, quickly gaining the attention of influential figures in and out of Brazil.

Less than a decade later, it opened its second outpost in the country’s capital, São Paulo, in 1987. Two decades after opening its flagship, it made its United States debut in Dallas, Texas, in 1997.

Now, the chain boasts over 60 outposts in the US. It also has locations abroad in Mexico, Ecuador, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. The team is also looking to expand to Canada, Bolivia, the Philippines, Costa Rica, El Salvador and the Middle East, according to its website
