From Brooklyn to the Bronx, New Yorkers flock to Birria-Landia’s food trucks. They line up rain or shine to get a taste of the esteemed tacos that earned the food trucks the #18 ranking on the New York Times’ list of 100 best restaurants in 2023.

To keep up with the unwavering demand for their flavorful creations, Birria-Landia is preparing for its newest restaurant to open later this summer in Flushing’s Tangram Mall. This will be Birria-Landia’s fifth location in its portfolio and second location in Queens.

Birria-Landia is owned by José and Jesús Moreno, two brothers who began their entrepreneurial journey almost five years ago in Jackson Heights. According to Birria-Landia’s website, Birria-Landia is built on the Moreno brothers’ love for birria de res. The Morenos were trained in American and Italian restaurants; but in 2019, they pivoted from working in others’ restaurants to launching their own.

Having grown up in Puebla, Mexico, the two were eager to serve food that celebrated a Tijuana tradition of slow-roasted, marinated beef tacos. Today, the duo has ushered in a new era of Tijuana-style cuisine in New York City that has been well received by everyday consumers and critics alike

“We are most excited about bringing our authentic Birria to a vibrant and dynamic new neighborhood, and being part of such a renowned destination as Tangram Mall,” Birria-Landia’s Communications Coordinator Haidy Gaitan shared in an email exchange with What Now NY.

A projected menu shared with What Now NY includes options for tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, tostadas and consumé. Meat options include birria, carne asada, Mexican chorizo, and grilled chicken.

Gaitan confirmed that Birria-Landia in Tangram Mall is aiming to open by August, construction permitting. While the idea of food trucks imply restaurants on-the-move, patrons of Birria-Landia’s newest location need not fear. The new location will be a permanent fixture in Tangram Mall’s Food Court.
