Alex Laracy is one of the franchisees behind the brand’s expansion plans in NYC. What Now NY connected with Laracy over the phone to learn about his first location coming soon to Union Square.

“I was inspired to join the Schmackary’s brand when my then three year-old son instantaneously fell in love with his first Schmackary’s cookie,” said Laracy. “There’s a warm welcoming feeling in the stores and after meeting Zach and Johnny, I knew I had to be a part of Schmackary’s. The brand is spreading Midwestern hospitality with delicious cookies all over the country, and I’m excited to be a part of their nationwide growth.”

Laracy has signed a multi unit agreement with Schmackary’s for a total of five franchise locations across New York City. He noted that the second store will likely open in Brooklyn, but at this time his focus is on making Schmackary ‘s Union Square a success.

“I’ve always seen Union Square as the cultural epicenter of lower Manhattan. Given Schmackary’s tight relationship with the Broadway community, we should fit right in with the thriving off-Broadway community of Union Square. I think the delicious cookies and warm atmosphere at Schmackary’s are going to become a part of the culture here. ”

The Schmackary’s team has not yet started building out the space. Laracy shared that there will be a stand-up counter with stools and he estimates there will be indoor seating for six people. He plans to have some outdoor dining options as well.

Schmackary’s Union Square is aiming for an October 1 opening .
