The Prospect Heights-based bagel shop opened its doors in 2010, around 12 years after its owners, cousins Ahmad Samhan and Faried Assad, debuted their flagship concept Zaytoons, a Middle Eastern restaurant, in the neighborhood. Although the bagel shop is a staple in Prospect Heights, it is set to face stiff competition in the East Village. Its rivals include Tompkins Square Bagels, a beloved Manhattan spot that has been open for over a decade and frequently attracts lines out the door on weekends; Russ and Daughters, a city landmark opened by Jewish immigrants over a century ago, which the late chef and food critic Anthony Bourdain boasted as the best in city; and Black Seed Bagel, an artisan bagel shop led by James Beard-nominated executive chef Diana Daoheung, which also has been a neighborhood staple for nearly a decade.

Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe’s menu includes but is not limited to its freshly made hand-rolled and kettle-boiled bagels, hence its motto “made the Olde fashioned way,” including its unique signature zaatar bagel, which has the potential to set it apart from its competition. It also offers homemade cream cheese, savory breakfast sandwiches and fresh chicken cutlets.

The East Village outpost will be taking over the space formerly occupied by Sanshi Noodle House, which closed last summer after over a year of serving the community, according to EVGrieve. Prior to that it was housed by Bar Virage for over 20 years.
