A brand-new restaurant concept is currently getting ready to launch new Union Square in the near future.
Leon’s is a new restaurant concept from owner Natalie Johnson. Nat is a well-established hospitality veteran with years of experience and previously served as General Manager and Beverage Director of Anton’s, a popular cafe and wine bar known for its seasonal European-American cuisine. Prior to that, she served as the Wine Director for Loring Place from 2016 until 2019.
Now, it appears that Nat is getting ready to debut a new concept of her own design. Dubbed Leon’s, the restaurant is tentatively expected to open at 847 Broadway, in the space of a recently-vacated tile store. According to Nat’s liquor license application, the location features approximately 2,500 square feet of space on the first floor, and 2,700 square feet of space in the cellar. Additionally, the team is looking to establish a 596 square feet sidewalk cafe that would bring the total number of on-premises seats to 101.
According to a sample menu provided with Nat’s liquor license application, Leon’s will serve an elevated Italian menu that will offer a wide variety of aperitivi, formaggi, and antipasti, as well as plenty of fish, meat, and vegetable entrees. What Now New York reached out to Nat to learn more about her plans for Leon’s, but she declined to comment, saying that she and her team were waiting to acquire their liquor license before sharing more information with press.
Speaking of liquor licenses, Nat’s team is currently preparing to meet with the community board in order to acquire their license and move on to the next steps. They are proposing operating hours of 8:00 AM – 11:00 PM, every day, seven days a week. Unfortunately, Leon’s is still too early into development to have its own social media profile, but we will be back in a few months to update this story as Leon’s nears closer to completion.
