Shosh Kitchen is a brand new restaurant from Chef and Owner Anat Sror. An Israeli immigrant, Anat has been feeding New Yorkers for over 25 years. Arriving in New York at the age of 20, Anat worked countless food service jobs and quickly developed a mastery of culinary technique. Fifteen years ago, she opened up a small Mediterranean-style bistro in the Lower East Side called Cafe Petisco. Unbeknownst to most of the neighborhood customers, Anat was also operating a gourmet catering service from the full kitchen in the Cafe’s basement. Anat’s operation soon earned a reputation for excellence, and before long it seemed that nearly every fashion shoot in New York would have her food on set.

Today, Anat, who has always preferred to keep a low profile, is now getting ready to launch a brand new restaurant for Greenwich Village. Her new concept, Shosh Kitchen, is named after her mother, Soshana, who still lives in the house in Netanya, Israel where Anat was raised. Growing up in Netanya, Anat’s life revolved around the food her mother spent all day preparing in the kitchen, and it was this experience that inspired her to open up Shosh Kitchen. Envisioned as a Plant-Based Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Restaurant, Anat will be preparing local, organic, fresh food all day.

Anat has been living a Plant-Based lifestyle for over six years, and has lived most of her life as a vegetarian. Anat and her team decided to operate a Plant-Based kitchen for the environmental impact, as meat production is the leading cause of global deforestation, as well as the diet’s positive health effects. Eating a Plant-Based diet reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and heart conditions. Endeavoring to do good for both the planet and her customers, Anat is excited to provide the neighborhood with a much-needed Plant-Based restaurant space.

Shosh Kitchen will be opening up at 41 Greenwich Avenue, in a historic building that once housed the iconic Italian restaurant Angelina’s. Operating for 50 years from 1936-1986, Angelina’s was operated by Angelina Morra, who, like Anat, was an immigrant and matriarch. Anat feels honored to fill a space with such a rich history of serving food and wine to the community, and hopes that Shosh Kitchen will help bring the community together the way that Angelina’s did over 40 years ago.

Once the restaurant is open, the space will feature a coffee station as well as a cold and hot deli with plenty of options to choose from, along with a variety of local and imported dry goods. Beyond the deli counter, guests will encounter the wine bar, where dine-in services are offered. Their lunch and dinner service will feature traditional Plant-Based Mezze dishes as well as a small wine program. Additionally, customers will be able to order delivery, catering, and curated boxes of food and good’s through the restaurant’s website. While the team still has some more work ahead of them before they’re ready to open, you can follow Shosh Kitchen on Instagram for regular updates and more information as development progresses.
