New York’s newest soup dumpling restaurant is getting ready to launch their second location.
DD Soup Dumpling is a new soup dumpling chain from owner Shu Dong. The restaurant specializes in soup dumplings known as Xiaolongbao, which are large bao dumplings filled with a rich and hearty broth. In fact, last year What Now New York originally covered the launch of the first DD Soup Dumpling House in 2021. Now that the restaurant has officially opened, it appears that it has been successful enough to earn its first expansion to date.
DD Soup Dumpling’s second location will be opening up at 690 Ninth Avenue, between West 47th Street and West 48th. The location is currently occupied by the restaurant Pozzo Vivo, and is expected to be able to seat about 60 guests inside. Occupying the ground floor of the restaurant, DD Soup Dumpling is well-positioned to transform the space to a dynamic new restaurant concept.
According to a sample menu from Uber Eats, guests can expect to enjoy a variety of unique dishes like hot and sour soup, beef noodle soup with chilli pepper, chicken and beef entrees, as well as seafood options like baby shrimp and crab and vegetarian options like mapo tofu and sauteed baby bok choy. Of course, guests will also be able to enjoy DD’s signature soup dumplings prepared with pork, beef, seafood, or vegetables.
At the moment, Shu Dong is gearing up to meet with the community board to acquire a new beer, wine, and cider license for the space. He is currently proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM every day, seven days a week, though those hours are subject to change pending the board’s approval. Unfortunately, DD Soup Dumpling House does not have its own website or social media presence, but you can try out their signature soup dumplings by having them delivered through Uber.
