Domakase is a brand new concept from owner Sueng Hoon Choi. Described as an omakase-style sushi restaurant, Domakase will be opening up at 23 Avenue B, replacing a former dry cleaner that previously occupied the space. Hoon has been operating restaurants in both Cleveland and Queens for years, but this will be their first project to open up in Manhattan.

As a traditional omakase restaurant, the proposed menu is rather minimalist, highlighting a few exceptional pieces of sushi as opposed to serving an eclectic mix of different items. Omakase is all about doing one thing in the best possible way, and Domakase is no different. Beyond the available handrolls and chirashi boxes, the restaurant will also offer two different Omakase concepts. The “original” omakase will run guests about $120, but the restaurant will also offer an elevated VIP experience for $240.

Like most omakase restaurants, the space will be relatively intimate. The location 22 seats among the tables, as well as two additional 8-seat bars in the back of the restaurant, bringing their total number of seats to 38. At the moment, Hoon is currently in the process of acquiring a beer and wine license for the space. Hoon is proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 12:00 AM, seven days a week, which is not expected to be opposed by the community board given the operating hours of comparable restaurants in the neighborhood. Unfortunately, Domakase is still too early into development to have its own social media presence, so you will have to just keep your eyes peeled for new signs of life at the location.
