The new Vesuvio Bakery will be housed at 824 Tenth Avenue, a source with first-hand knowledge of the deal confirmed Tuesday.

Vesuvio was first established by the Dapolito family in the 1920s on Prince Street, but later closed twelve years ago. One hundred years after its founding, Block took over the bakery and reopened Vesuvio to showcase a revamped version of the original bakery, which includes homemade bread, Italian cookies, and soft serve gelato.

Vesuvio was first opened by married couple Nunzio and Jennie Dapolito in 1920, and became popular for selling Italian bread and biscuits cooked from coal ovens in their basement. Their son Anthony delivered the baked goods on a horse-drawn wagon, but eventually took over the family business until he passed away in 2003. The bakery eventually closed down in 2009 and remained closed until Block took over.

Block himself is no stranger to the restaurant scene, having also founded Block & Associates in 1987, a consulting company for restaurants. The advising and consulting company has not only reached to New York, but to restaurants around the globe.

As of now, no set date has been announced for the opening of Vesuvio’s second location. However, fans of the Prince Street location will likely hear updates via Vesuvio’s Facebook and Instagram.
