Owner Sean Hui confirmed with What Now New York that he is planning to sign a lease for the location on Second Avenue this week. The restaurant will occupy the ground floor and basement of the building.
“The Tipsy Shanghai brand has been operating in New York for eight years, but we have yet to open a location in the East Village,” Hui said in an email to What Now New York. “Now, we are finally bringing a new restaurant to this vibrant neighborhood, and I am very excited about it.”
Tipsy Shanghai serves Chinese food such as smoked carp, pan-fried pork, salted duck and dumplings. It also serves soup, noodles and rice dishes. The drink menu offers a limited wine list, featuring rice wine.
The new location will have some differences from the other concepts under the brand.
“At this new location, I plan to open a more upscale Chinese restaurant, combining traditional Chinese cultural elements with authentic Chinese cuisine to create a refined atmosphere and high-quality dining experience,” Hui said.
Hui predicts the new location will open in early 2025.
