Happy Thanksgiving, dear readers! As you continue to enjoy your precious leftovers in a lethargic, post-feast haze, you can now enjoy some exciting news about a new development in Battery Park City. Sixpoint Brewery, the popular Brooklyn-based brewery that established a cult-following in Red Hook, is currently getting ready for a massive expansion that will see the team establishing a brand new taproom in Manhattan’s Brookfield Place development.

Established in Red Hook in 2004 by founders Andrew Bronstein and Shane Welch, Sixpoint Brewery began as a small microbrewery that got its start by selling exclusive kegs to local bars and restaurants. At the time, Sixpoint set itself apart from the competition with their “Mad Science” philosophy, combining the science of brewing with a dose of unbridled creativity that “borders on insanity”. As a tribute to this philosophy, the founders used the famed “Brewers Hexagram” as their logo, an ancient alchemical symbol that has long been associated with brewing since at least the Middle Ages.

As a Brooklyn-born microbrewery, Sixpoint had become something of a cult icon among locals, who took pride in the popularity of an authentically New York brewery. In 2010, Sixpoint introduced themselves to the world at large when they released their first canned creations, continuing to refine their formulas and releasing new brews year after year. Now, only a few years after their acquisition by Artisanal Brewing Ventures in 2018, Sixpoint is currently gearing up for their largest expansion to date.

Expanding into Manhattan for their first time ever, Sixpoint Brewery has just secured a lease for a brand new tap room and beer garden at 200 Liberty Street, otherwise known as Brookfield place. The new location will offer 7,500 square feet of space to house the taproom section, as well as an additional 2,500 square feet of space for the planned outdoor beer garden. The new brewery will be joining other luminaries at Brookfield Place like Seamore’s, Liberty Bistro, Saint Ambroeus, and P.J. Clarke’s.

Jason Mauer, the executive vice president of national urban retail at Brookfield Properties, said of the deal that “Sixpoint’s first Manhattan location at Brookfield Place, which will feature a full menu of craft food and award-winning beers, is a great addition to the neighborhood, offering a taste of Brooklyn here in Battery Park City.”

While you wait, you can also check out Sixpoint’s recently developed taproom in Downtown Brooklyn, which opened up earlier this year. According to Sixpoint, they are hoping to have their new taproom and beer garden open to the public by Late 2023.
