Midtown sushi lovers are in for some exciting news.
Tatsuda Omakase is a brand-new restaurant currently expected to open up in Midtown this year. Tatsuda is the latest restaurant from founder Eric Zhong, a well-established hospitality professional with years of experience. Prior to launching Tatsuda, he operated a popular Asian fusion restaurant in Saugerties called Ginza, and before that, he launched Asura Asian Fusion on West 35th Street. Sadly, both concepts have since shut down but thankfully Eric has a plan for an exciting new restaurant of his own design.
His new restaurant, dubbed Tatusda, is envisioned as an exclusive omakase concept and is currently expected to open at 354 West 44th Street. The location was formerly home to Bull Moose Saloon, a popular bar that was notorious for being the main hang-out of New York Observer writers. The location is inhabited by a handsome building that offers 2,500 square feet of space between the ground floor and cellar. Current estimates place Tatsuda’s capacity at 15 guests.
As an omakase restaurant, Tatsuda will offer an exclusive tasting menu of premium quality sushi. According to a sample menu provided by Eric, Tastsuda will serve a wide variety of fish such as tuna (lean and fatty), striped jack, flounder, sockeye and king salmon, Spanish mackerel, and shrimp and squid alongside sea scallops, oysters, and sea urchins.
Eric is also looking to acquire a beer and wine license for Tatusda and is currently getting ready to meet with the community board to acquire the necessary liquor license. He is proposing operating hours of 11:30 – 11:00 PM Sunday through Thursday, and 11:30 AM – 12:00 AM Friday and Saturday. What Now New York spoke briefly with Eric about his new restaurant, and he explained that he and his team are still very early into development, and as such he can’t establish a timeline for opening at this point. Unfortunately, Tatsuda does not yet have any active social media profiles right now, but we will update this article accordingly as Eric continues to develop his restaurant and gets ready to share more information.
