Osteria Barocca is the latest concept to arrive from Iyad Hamsho. Hamsho is well known in the city as the mind behind Zia Maria, a popular pizzeria based out of Chelsea. Additionally, Hamsho was also behind the relaunch of Angelo’s on Mulberry, whose revival as Casa Di Angelo was recently covered by your favorite breaking news reporter.

According to the Commercial Observer, Hamsho has just secured a 12-year lease for the space at 133 Mulberry Street, which was formerly home to Aunt Jake’s (no relation to your favorite breaking news reporter). Aunt Jake’s was a popular contemporary Italian spot located between Grand and Hester streets that offered mix-and-match pasta dishes before closing down earlier in 2022. While fans will be very sad to say goodbye to Aunt Jake’s, the good news is that Aunt Jakes continues to operate at a new location on the Upper West Side, and readers can find more information on the company website.

Thankfully, the space at 133 will not remain vacant for much longer. The location offers 3,300 square feet of space on the ground floor, as well as 1,700 square feet of space in the basement. While many details about Hamsho’s new restaurant are still forthcoming, current estimates place an opening date around this Spring. At the moment, there are no social media profiles active for Osteria Barocca, but you can visit Casa Di Angelo to get a sense of what the team can do.
