Owned and operated by Chi Kwong Wang, Uncle Lou is a brand new Cantonese restaurant that seeks to take fine Cantonese-style home cooking and bring it to the fine people of New York. Curated by Uncle Lou himself, a chef and businessman with decades of experience working in Chinatown, their menu “bridges the traditions, flavors, and comfort with Uncle Lou’s community, personal history, and style.”

Uncle Lou’s will be replacing Pho New York Restaurant at 73 Mulberry Street. Pho New York was a popular Vietnamese restaurant known for their flavorful broths and grilled chicken platters. While the restaurant regularly received positive reviews, they were unable to sustain themselves during the pandemic and were forced to clsoe their doors for good. At the moment, there are no other locations that are currently operational and it remains unclear whether or not the owners plan to reopen it somewhere else. For now, it appears that Pho New York is gone for good.

Thankfully, Uncle Lou is stepping in to fill in the void. With two floors of space available (the ground floor and basement), Uncle Lou will be able to accommodate up to 75 people at one time. In addition to the Cantonese food, Uncle Lou will also be serving a light selection of beer and wine to thirsty patrons and will feature a 9ft x14ft bar at the front of the restaurant.

Open from 8am-10pm seven days a week, Uncle Lou is expected be a regular new spot for locals. Between the spacious interior and exciting menu, there’s a lot to look forward to. As Uncle Lou says, “Inspiration comes from a passion to create the food that brings folks together,” and bringing folks together is exactly what this new restaurant will accomplish. Look forward to Uncle Lou opening up on 73 Mulberry Street at the end of the month.
