Chalong is a brand new restaurant concept from chefs Suphang Uthaisansakul and Natwalan Limwong. The two previously served as chefs at recognizable Thai spots like Fish Cheeks, Soothr, and Senn Thai Comfort Food, but this will be the first time the pair has ever opened up a restaurant of their own.

Their first restaurant – Chalong – is scheduled to replace the Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken at 749 Ninth Avenue. A popular restaurant in the Bromberg Restaurant family, the loss of the Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken on Ninth has been felt by the neighborhood, but the company thankfully still operates their original location in the East Village.

As a restaurant specializing in the cuisine of southern Thailand (Chalong is actually named after a district in Phuket), Chalong will serve authentic Thai dishes like surat kor moo yang, seafood tom yum hotpots, pad sii-iw, pad pak ruam, and seabass curry. The Chalong team is currently in the process of applying for a liquor license for the space, and once they have acquired the license they will also be serving Thai beers and cocktails.

Offering a total 1,800 square feet of space, the location is spacious enough to seat 40 guests inside, as well an additional 8 guests in the restaurant’s proposed outdoor café. The restaurant is expected to operate daily from 11:30 AM – 10:00 PM, every day. The team is still too early into development to share further details about their plans for the grand opening, but are hoping to have those details confirmed as soon as possible. The proposed menu currently lists the restaurant’s website as www.chalongnyc.com, though it does not appear that the domain has been activated yet.
