Carla is a new gastropub that is based out of Long Island City, Queens. Founded by This Must Be The Place Group President Barbie Cheung, Carla is a full-service restaurant that prides itself on using fresh and local products balanced with New Latin American culinary influences. Serving the local and international community alike, Carla is especially well-known for its flavorful burgers, tacos, and guacamole. The team that operates Carla also operates the popular Bar Basic, based out of Park Slope.

Now, Barbie and the Carla team are taking their successful concept to a brand new neighborhood. Carla’s first Manhattan expansion will see the restaurant opening up in Hell’s Kitchen at 331 West 51st Street, replacing Le Duc Sorelle Trattoria, a popular Italian restaurant that operated for nearly 20 years at the space. The restaurant will feature 50 tables with 110 seats, as well as one 13-foot customer bar with 6 seats, and another 6-foot customer bar with 4 seats.

As a minority woman owned business, the Carla team believes that opening up a new restaurant in the neighborhood will have a great impact in revitalizing the community. They intend to use the advantage of their business to hire local staffs and create job opportunities in the neighborhood. Maintaining a vibrant community with safe gathering spaces in the aftermath of the recent pandemic is critical to preserving the mental well-being of that community.

The new Carla outpost will feature a similar menu to their Queens location, serving up New Latin American dishes like Mexican surf and turf, shrimp po-boys, and chicken fajitas. Carla will also feature a front patio with open dining, and is expected to operate from 9:00 AM – 1:00 AM Sunday through Thursday, and 9:00 AM – 2:00 AM on Friday and Saturday. For more information, be sure to follow Carla on Instagram as they get ready to plan a grand opening.
