One of the Lower East Side’s most prominent entrepreneurs is currently getting ready to develop a brand new concept in Greenwich Village.
John Cutillo is a highly prominent New York based bar owner who has been responsible for some of the Lower East Side’s most popular bars. John was behind recognizable haunts like Iggy’s Keltic Lounge on Ludlow Street, Local 138 on Orchard Street, Lone Wolf on Broadway, and Spotted Owl and Spikes on Avenue A. Most recently, What Now New York covered John’s acquisition of the former Keybar space, and now it appears that the indefatigable bar owner is once again planning a brand new concept.
John’s latest bar, which has yet to be named, will be opening up at 234 West 14th Street, replacing Woods and Ale’s, a popular sports bar known for serving burgers and wings in a cozy spot with plenty of TVs that had been successfully operating since 2005. Sadly, Woods and Ales closed down about three years ago, but now that John has acquired the lease he will be able to revive the space with a thrilling new concept.
Still primarily in the development phase, John describes his concept as a “bar with limited food.” The space is expected to be relatively intimate, featuring a total of 950 square feet on the ground floor. The location leaves enough room for John to seat about 57 guests, between the nine interior tables and 18-seat bar. The bar will not heavily emphasize the kitchen and will only serve a light assortment of traditional pub fare.
Naturally, now that John has acquired the lease for the space, he must now acquire the necessary liquor license for his bar. John and his team will be meeting with the community board later in the month to discuss his plans for operation, and at the moment he is proposing operating hours of 12:00 PM – 2:00 AM Sunday through Thursday, and 12:00 PM – 4:00 AM Friday and Saturday. Of course, those hours are always subject to change should the board deem it necessary.
