Curt Huegel is well-known in the city as a highly respected restaurateur. Since 1992, Huegel has brought to life some of the city’s most exciting concepts, including The Mill, Rebar, Local, and Dakota Bar and Grill. In 2008, Huegel founded the nationally recognized LDV Hospitality company and lunched a plethora of well-known brands like Lugo Caffe, Corso Coffee, Dolce Italian, American Cut and Scarpetta.

While Huegel has not been involved with LDV Hospitality since 2014, today he is probably best known as the founder of Host Restaurants. A Manhattan-based hospitality company with varied restaurant concepts throughout the city, Host Restaurants offers patrons everything from casual bars to white tablecloth dining experiences. Established in 2013, Huegel and his partners at Host have been responsible for recognizable haunts like Lucy’s Cantina Royale, Jackdaw, Sefton, Printers Alley, Bill’s Townhouse, Campagnola, and Galli. Now, it appears that Huegel and his team are getting ready to open a brand new concept in the East Village.

Huegel’s latest concept, which has yet to be officially titled, will be opening up in the East Village at 132 Second Avenue, between St Marks Place and East Ninth Street. The concept is envisioned as an American Fusion restaurant, and will be moving into the space that was previously occupied by Dallas BBQ. Practically an East Village institution, Dallas BBQ has been serving out great meat and affordable cocktails for years, and your humble reporter was even known to frequent the spot in the days of his youthful vigor. At the moment though, Dallas BBQ remains open, so you haven’t yet missed out on your chance to check it out before the new restaurant opens up.

For the new space, Huegel has partnered with Jackdaw’s Ronan Carter and Paul McDaid to bring the concept to life. For the menu, Huegel and the team have an impressive American Fusion food program planned, and will also serve an impressive array of cocktails, wines, and beers. The menu lists over 15 different cocktails, so patrons can look forward to sampling the many options as they get to know the restaurant.

For the food options, the team has prepared a delightful array of different appetizers and plates like bao buns, charcuterie boards, burgers, wings, nachos, hummus bowls, and tostadas, as well as a plethora of different bowls, salads, and sandwiches. Additionally, the restaurant will serve an exclusive Brunch menu daily until 3:00 PM.

To make this new vision a permanent reality, Huegel and his team are now in the process of meeting with the community board to acquire a new liquor license for the space. At the moment, the team is proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM – 4:00 AM every day, seven days a week. They are still very early into the development process, and as such they have not yet launched the new space’s social media channels, but be sure to keep your eyes peeled on the corner for new signs of development.
