Hearty & Healthy opened in the East Village, bringing hearty — and healthy! — fare, as well as creative cocktails and mocktails, that won’t break the bank to the neighborhood. Sourcing organic and locally whenever possible, Hearty & Healthy has everybody covered with a menu full of options for vegetarians, pescatarians, vegans, and gluten free diners. With an extensive menu and large bar, the restaurant is great for groups and aims to be a destination where guests with different dietary preferences can all enjoy a meal together.

In a neighborhood craving daytime spots and wallet-friendly dishes and drinks, Hearty & Healthy will serve up a wide range of lunch, dinner and brunch (weekend) options including an array of burgers, seafood, fresh housemade pastas, vegan dishes and hearty salads, and the food will be cooked with olive oil rather than butter or unhealthy vegetable oils, as well as cocktails and zero-proof options from a “What To Drink When You’re Not Drinking” menu.

What’s on the menu?

  • Hearty dishes like the signature Wuddaburger with American wagyu, gruyere, onion rings, fried egg, and house Hennessey cognac-black peppercorn sauce; fried Pim-Pam Chicken with house honey chipotle drizzle (a regional specialty of Guadalajara, Mexico); plus comforting classics like Grandma’s Chicken Pot Pie; braised Short Ribs with mashed potatoes and carrots 
     
  • Healthy options feature Blackened Salmon Salad with avocado, tomatoes, quinoa, feta and lemon vinaigrette; Harvest Salad with roasted butternut squash, quinoa, apples, avocado, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, and kale; vegan baked Spaghetti Squash with house-made marinara, spinach and tofu cream  
  • Brunch offers Hangover Benny with crispy smoked bacon, prosciutto cotto ham, and hollandaise; Chorizo Skillet with scrambled eggs, Mexican chorizo, queso fresco, jalapeño, salsa, guacamole and soft tortillas; house-made French Toast and Vegan Pancakes with seasonal berries, blueberry compote and maple syrup. The extensive lunch menu focuses on hearty salads and creative burgers.
  • Drinks: The bar program highlights mezcal, house infusions likejalapeño tequila, spicy cinnamon whiskey, limoncello vodka,and spirit-free cocktails. Creative drinks include Sunrise Mezcal with mezcal, ginger syrup, fresh lime and pineapple juice; Tequila Road with tequila blanco, housemade chile morita syrup, fresh lime and grapefruit juices; mocktails like Little Miss Pumpkin Spice with pumpkin puree, fresh apple and lemon juices, and cinnamon syrup; Rosemary Paloma with fresh grapefruit juice, rosemary-infused syrup and lemon.

Andee Rosario, an owner and beverage manager, grew up in the industry as her family owns Los Munchies, a Dominican fast-casual restaurant group with multiple locations in Upper Manhattan, The Bronx and Queens. She has worked nearly every FOH position in restaurants ranging from her family’s spots to Minton’s Clubhouse and Cecil Steakhouse in Harlem.

Hearty & Healthy is located at 103 1st Ave., NYC.

Hearty & Healthy is open Tuesday-Friday from 10am-12am; Saturday from 10am-2am; Sunday from 10am-6pm with brunch menu all day; Closed Monday.
