Fumo is a well-established pizzeria and restaurant from owners Francesco Capolongo and Steve Gallo, two Upper Manhattan restaurateurs who also operate Harlem’s Chick Inn and Uncle Tony’s Pizza. In fact, your stalwart reporting team at What Now New York previously covered the team’s Chick Inn expansion last year, when they opened up a new location in Kips Bay. Since the writing of that article, the Kips Bay location is now open and doing regular business.

Fumo is known for its strong Italian roots, and their love for fresh food is evident in every dish they serve. The Michelin Guide describes Fumo as “Undeniably chic” and praised their Italian dishes as “executed with a deft hand and solid ingredients”, pouring on particular praise for Fumo’s pizza and pasta options. The guide also celebrated the restaurant’s decor, which features bright white walls, light wood tables, and dark leather furnishings.

Fumo currently operates two locations in New York, one on the Upper West Side at 2791 Broadway, and one in Harlem at 1600 Amsterdam Avenue. Now though, the Fumo team is once again gearing up to launch a brand new expansion on the Upper East Side. According to a representative of the restaurant, Fumo is looking to open up in a new space at 1626 Second Avenue. The restaurant was formerly home to Who’s Jack W, a popular gastropub located between East 84th Street and East 85th that closed down earlier this year.

According to Fumo’s representative, the restaurant will keeping the space’s present layout, with 16 tables and 50 seats and one 16-seat bar. There are no plans in place currently to establish street seating, but they may add additional sidewalk seating pending further discussion. According to the representative, Fumo is proposing operating hours of 11:00 AM 12:00 AM Sunday through Thursday and 11:00 AM – 1:00 AM on Friday and Saturday.
