On Friday, June 10, the airy Bushwick warehouse that has become home to Farm to People opens to the public as Farm to People Kitchen & Bar: an eatery featuring the same high quality, freshly picked ingredients over 20,000 Farm to People customers have enjoyed since the brand’s inception. Farm to People’s unique mission of supporting small local farmers and makers and getting delicious, consciously grown food to their customers within days of picking is now also front and center at the indoor-outdoor community space.

The menu at Farm to People Kitchen & Bar is sourced from a network of over 150 farms primarily located within 300 miles of New York City. Opening offerings include:

Sumac Smash Burger – Happy Valley Meat Co. pasture-raised ground beef with caramelized & fresh onions, house-made pickles, & celery dijonnaise on Bread Alone brioche bun.

Little Gem Salad – Lancaster Farms Gem Lettuce, Hawthorne Valley Biodynamic Buttermilk & everything bagel-seasoned She Wolf sourdough crumble.

Yuzu Tarragon Potato Salad – Fingerling potatoes & spring peas dressed in yuzu kosho tarragon mayo and upcycled pea shell chiffonade.

The Farm to People team moved into the Bushwick warehouse in July 2021 after six temporary homes, 600% member growth over the past two years, and 0 interruptions in service. Subscribers who get their Farm Boxes delivered to their door, now have the option to pick up their weekly, biweekly, or monthly orders at Farm to People Kitchen & Bar, and grab a drink or snack as they do. Eventually patrons will be able to purchase groceries right from their table. Farm to People Kitchen & Bar is the next evolution of the Farm to People idea.

“Creating a transparent, fair food system has always been our mission, so when we moved into this space we knew we wanted it to embody our core philosophy: ‘Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food.’ Instead of just being another dark store fulfillment center in NYC, we want to invite people in, nourish them, and foster community,” said Co-Founder & CEO Michael Robinov in a statement. “Here, we host enlightening discussions with food pioneers like Dan Barber and Irving Fain and events with organizations like Clean Bushwick Initiative and Zero Waste NYC, looking to connect more deeply with New Yorkers.”

“For years, we’ve watched our subscribers get creative with their Farm Boxes,” continues Co-Founder & Creative Director Anina von Haeften. “Our hope is that Farm to People Kitchen & Bar inspires more folks to join the local and regenerative food movement.”

Chef Matthew Yee joins the team to lead the kitchen. He hails from some of New York City’s top restaurants, Mena & One White Street, and has a deep background in sustainable agriculture from his time at UMass Amherst and working on upstate New York farms.

Farm to People Kitchen & Bar is located at 1100 Flushing Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11237 and open Friday 5 p.m.-12 a.m., Saturday 12 p.m.-12 a.m., and Sunday 2 p.m.-10 p.m. Wine tastings are hosted on the first Thursday of every month.
