Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is widely regarded as one of the world’s most renowned chefs and restaurateurs. As savvy a businessman as he is a chef, Chef Jean-Georges is responsible for the operation and success of 49 restaurants worldwide. Born in Alsace, France, Jean-Georges spent his early years apprenticing under luminaries like Paul Bocuse and Master Chef Louis Outhier, training at the iconic thee-starred Michelin restaurant L’Oasis. Afterwards, he continued his pursuit of culinary mastery and traveled throughout Asia, serving at iconic spots like Singapore’s Meridien Hotel and Hong Kong’s Mandarin Hotel, greatly expanding his culinary arsenal and acquiring a plethora of new skills and techniques.

Today, Jean-Georges is recognized by chefs of all stripes as a master of his craft. A rigid perfectionist, Jean-Georges is involved in every aspect of his restaurants, from the concept and menu to the architectural design and staff selection. It is this eye for detail that has transformed the chef’s concepts into some of the most popular restaurants in operation today. While we couldn’t possibly have the bandwidth to list all of his restaurants here, readers are likely to recognize many of his New York concepts, including Vong, Nougatine, The Mercer Kitchen, and JoJo, among countless others.

Now, fresh off the launch of his brand new Seaport Marketplace, Jean-Georges is already looking forward into the future and is moving ahead with his next concept. His new restaurant, which has not been officially titled yet, is scheduled to arrive at 425 Park Avenue, where the chef has inked a “long-term partnership agreement” for a 14,000 square feet space on the corner of East 56th Street and Park Avenue. The luxurious space is expected to feature dazzling, 25-foot high ceilings, as well as a 1,000 square foot open “show kitchen,” and a second floor cocktail lounge that will feature a 24-foot-long painting by artist Larry Poons.

As is tradition, Chef Jean-Georges will personally operate the building’s in-house food and beverage offerings, including a kitchen, dining area, coffee bar, and private event catering space. The space will even feature its own in-house bakery and is expected to serve a robust beverage program with extensive cocktail and wine options.

According to a representative of the company, the new restaurant is expected to be operational some time in 2023. L&L Holdings Chairman and CEO David Levinson said of the deal that “I had always hoped I could one day partner with [Jean-Georges] and am delighted this opportunity came together. We have every confidence that he and his incredible team will help us achieve our ambitious vision for 425 Park as Manhattan’s next iconic dining destination. While you wait for the new concept to develop, you can check out Jean-Georges’ website for information on all of his exciting projects.
