Chef Angie Mar has quickly established herself as one of the biggest new names in New York’s fine dining scene. A graduate of the French Culinary Institute, Chef Mar became the executive chef at The Beatrice Inn. Soon after, Mar became the champion of Chopped’s “Grill Masters” tournament and later bought the The Beatrice Inn with her cousin Melissa Merrill Kerry. Receiving effusive praise for her transformation of the restaurant, Chef Mar eventually launched her much anticipated restaurant Les Trois Chevaux in 2021 to critical acclaim.

Matt Abramcyk, meanwhile, is known as one of Tribeca’s most prominent restaurateurs. The owner of Neighborhood Projects Restaurant Group, Matt was behind recognizable icons like Smith & Mills, Holy Ground, Tiny’s & the Bar Upstairs, and Warren 77. Coincidentally, Abramcyk also owned The Beatrice Inn from 2006 to 2011, before Chef Mar began working there.

Now, Matt and chef Mar are teaming up to bring a brand new restaurant to Greenwich Village. The as-yet unnamed restaurant is currently operating under the corporate name 11th Street Restaurant LLC and will be opening up at 314 West 11th Street, replacing The Spotted Pig, a well known Michelin-starred gastropub from chef April Bloomfield. Chef Mar actually served as sous-chef at The Spotted Pig for a while, so she is well-acquainted with the space and has a clear vision for its future.

The new restaurant is envisioned as an upscale concept that will “offer guests a seafood raw bar on the ground floor and meat-based menu on the second floor,” according to the team’s recent liquor license filing. Chef Mar’s menu will feature a French undertone that will celebrate her vision and “unequivocally downtown interpretation of fine dining”.

Providing a new beginning for the iconic 19th century building, the new restaurant hopes to offer guests an intimate dining experience. Split between two concepts, the ground floor raw bar will offer 1,379 square feet of space, while the meat-focused restaurant upstairs will offer 820 square feet of space. In total, the restaurant is expected to have space to seat about 77 guests.

The restaurant will also feature exclusive wines and cocktails, and the team is currently in the process of acquiring the necessary liquor license. Right now the team is proposing operating hours of 10:00 AM 2:00 AM on the weekends, and 11:30 AM 2:00 AM on the weekends. While the team still isn’t ready to make any official announcements about the new restaurant, you can follow Chef Mar on Instagram for future updates as the team nears completion.
