“We started Cha Cha Matcha as an alternative to artisanal coffee culture and the extreme, hyperbolic world of energy drinks,” shares Cha Cha’s website, which comes complete with graphics displaying the perks of going green-tea over a cup of joe (hint, no coffee breath). “Our adventurous elixirs—made with ceremonial grade matcha—are a special sort of pick-me-up.” Cha Cha says a matcha caffeine experience is calm and clear, and the energy, unlike your typical coffee zip, doesn’t crash.

In June of 2016, Cha Cha Matcha opened its first store right here in NYC. Midtown and Bowery locations followed. Cha Cha Matcha has even abandoned that whole east coast-west coast rivalry thing and opened two locations in Los Angeles. And now, What Now New York is pleased to share, the company is opening a 5th NY location.

According to lease intel obtained by WNNY, Cha Cha Matcha’s latest east coast location is headed to 15 E 21st Street, in the Gramercy Park Submarket. The drink shop, which has taken over a 950 square foot retail space, will set up shop on the ground floor corner of E 21st and Broadway, so you can pop right in for teas, lemonade, even matcha soft serve whenever you feel like it.

Speaking with WNNY, Co-founder and CEO Conrad Sandelman shared the company hasn’t even started construction on this new shop, so it remains months from opening. Sandelman says Cha Cha Matcha will likely open within the first two months of 2022.

In the meantime, head over to Cha Cha Matcha’s Instagram to check out what you’ve been missing.
