A brand new Thai restaurant is currently making plans to open up its first location right across from Union Square.
Pranakhon is a brand new concept from Thai restaurateur Intira Youngphitak. A full service Thai restaurant, Pranakhon will serve an array of Tai dishes that follow Intira’s family recipes as well as modern interpretations of those same recipes. Intending to create a new gathering space for community residents and their families, Intira hopes that the quality of Pranakhon’s food and service will bring guests from across the neighborhood to come and enjoy her signature cuisine.
Moving into the space at 88 University Place, Pranakhon will be only a few blocks away from Union Square, a critical transportation hub that should help generate a lot of foot traffic. The space is relatively large for the neighborhood, boasting 2,303 square feet of space on the ground floor and an additional 2,144 square feet for the basement. In total, the space is expected to be able to comfortably seat about 66 guests.
At the moment, Intira is currently in the process of acquiring a full liquor license for the space. While Intira views the space as more of a restaurant than a bar, she hopes that the inclusion of liquor, beer, wine, and cider will make the space more welcoming for various New Yorkers. The restaurant will not be establishing any outdoor seating, so the impact to local traffic and noise pollution will be minimal.
When the restaurant finally launches, Pranakhon will be open daily from 12:00 PM – 11:00 PM seven days a week. According to a representative of the restaurant, Pranakhon is still quite a ways from launching at this point, and is expected to open in a few months later in the summer. At the moment, the restaurant is still too early into development to have its own social media presence, but we will be sure to update you here should any information change in the near future.
