National Fast Food Chain Chik-Fil-A recently signed for 5,300 square feet to open their first new store in New York City in almost two years. Arriving at 217 West 34th Street, the deal was brokered by Ralph Hanan of Compass.

The new location would put Chick-Fil-A mere blocks away from Penn Station and Madison Square Garden, serving a massive new market of NY commuters. At the moment, Chick-Fil-A only operates 9 locations across the entire city, with the nearest one across the street from Grand Central.

According to the filing data, 217 West 34th Street as been on market since April 2018, when Rainbow Shops permanently shut its doors. Rainbow Shops was a popular midtown clothing outfitter that sold clothes ranging from children’s to plus-size. The space has remained vacant since, only exacerbated by the recent pandemic.

Chick-Fil-A was represented in the deal by Jeremy Ezra of Newmark Knight Frank. Ezra is the exclusive representative of Chick-Fil-A in New York and has played a critical role in helping the fast-food enter and expand the market. He has arranged all nine leases for the other restaurants in the city and recently helped open Brooklyn’s very first Chick-Fil-A.
