An exciting new restaurant is currently preparing to open up at 82 West 3rd Street.
Envisioned as an Asian fusion restaurant, the new restaurant will be called Red Feather. Owned by Jiahao Gu and Chi Zhang, the two are operating under the name Hoya W3 LLC for their latest venture.
In addition to Red Feather, Cheng and Gu also operate Yaso Tangbao, a popular Shanghainese restaurant known for its vibrant flavors and swift service. Compared to more traditionally Americanized Chinese food, Yaso’s Shanghai cuisine is characterized by a fresh, mellow, and nuanced flavor profile. Founded in 2015, Yaso quickly earned a positive word-of-mouth reputation and within five years there were already five different locations in operation.
Now, it appears that the team will be moving in a different direction with their latest concept. Red Feather is described as an Asian fusion restaurant that will focus on Chinese inspired fusion dishes served alongside beer, wine, and sake, intending to provide “a unique dining experience for the community”.
Before Red Feather, the spot at 82 West 3rd Street was previously occupied by Pho Bar, a popular Vietnamese restaurant known for its savory broths and tender meats. Pho Bar sadly closed earlier this year during the pandemic, but thankfully the owners still operate Saigon Shack at 114 McDougal Street.
Not much else is currently known about Red Feather, as Chi and Jiahao still have a lot of work ahead of them to transform the new space into their restaurant. With 1,000 square feet of space, Red Feather will be able to seat about 50 people at one time. While you wait, consider trying out some of their Shanghainese cuisine at your nearest Yaso to get a sense of what to look forward to.
